Deskilo for Mac
Privacy, without the mystery.
Deskilo is designed around local macOS state. This page explains what the current Deskilo build stores, what it accesses, and where Apple services are involved.
Data Deskilo keeps on your Mac
Deskilo stores the information it needs to remember your Scenes and restore the desktop state it changes. This data is kept in Deskilo's app container and macOS preferences.
- Scene names, Scene app selections, Show/Open settings, desktop appearance, and configured shortcuts.
- Temporary recovery information used to restore a Scene safely after an interruption or crash.
- Deskilo preferences such as appearance, onboarding state, and Instant Cover settings.
Images you choose
If you choose an image for a Scene background or a custom Instant Cover, Deskilo reads the file you select and stores a managed copy inside Deskilo's local Application Support area so the feature can continue to work later.
Deskilo does not scan your photo library or unrelated folders. File access is limited by the macOS App Sandbox and user-selected file access.
Apps and desktop state
To apply a Scene, Deskilo observes running applications and uses public macOS APIs to hide, show, or open apps according to your Scene. It also stores the minimum recovery state needed to undo changes Deskilo made.
Clean Desktop visually covers desktop items; it does not move or delete your desktop files.
Diagnostics
The current Deskilo build writes operational messages to the macOS unified logging system for troubleshooting and recovery. Those logs are managed by macOS. Deskilo does not include a developer-operated analytics service or advertising SDK that uploads your usage activity.
If you choose to share a crash report or diagnostic report through Apple or another support channel, that sharing is controlled by the service or action you choose.
Purchases
Deskilo Pro is purchased through Apple's App Store infrastructure using StoreKit. Apple processes the transaction and makes verified purchase entitlement information available to Deskilo so the app can unlock Pro features.
Deskilo does not receive or store your payment card details.
Third-party services
The current Deskilo build does not embed third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. Apple services may process information when you download Deskilo, make or restore an App Store purchase, or choose to share diagnostics with Apple. Apple's handling of that information is governed by Apple's own policies.
Deleting local Deskilo data
You can remove Scenes from within Deskilo. Some locally managed support files may remain until they are replaced, cleaned up by the app, or the app's local container is removed. We are continuing to tighten this cleanup behavior before release.
Uninstalling Deskilo does not itself modify the original files you selected from outside Deskilo.
Changes to this policy
If Deskilo's data practices materially change, this page will be updated before those changes are represented as part of the released product.
For troubleshooting and current support guidance, see Deskilo Support.
