A few answers before you start rearranging your Mac.
Deskilo is deliberately small, but it changes real desktop state. These are the quickest answers for how Scenes, restore behavior, Instant Cover, and purchases are meant to work.
Start here
For the clearest first test, make one simple Scene with one or two apps, enter it, then exit it once. That makes it easy to see exactly what Deskilo changes and restores.
Scenes, Show, and Open
What is the difference between Show and Open?
Show keeps an app visible while the Scene is active. Open launches an app if it is not already running. They are separate so an app can be started without always being forced to the front.
Can the same app use both?
Yes. A typical Scene can both open an app when needed and keep it visible while that Scene is active.
What happens when I switch from Scene A to Scene B?
Deskilo restores the state it changed for Scene A before entering Scene B. The intended flow is Restore A → Idle → Enter B.
Desktop appearance
Does Clean Desktop move or delete my files?
No. Clean Desktop visually covers Finder desktop items for the Scene. It does not move or delete the original files.
Can a Scene use its own background?
Yes. A Scene can use a color, gradient, or selected image. If you select an image, Deskilo keeps a managed local copy so the Scene can continue to use it later.
Restore behavior
What does Deskilo restore when I leave a Scene?
Deskilo records the desktop and app state it is about to change, then restores the state Deskilo changed when you exit the Scene.
What if something looks wrong after a Scene?
Use Deskilo's global Scene exit first. If the app is already idle, reopen Deskilo and check the Scene's Show/Open and desktop settings before entering it again.
Instant Cover
Does Instant Cover close or modify the apps underneath?
No. Instant Cover places a ready-made surface above the current desktop. The cover itself does not close, move, or edit the apps underneath.
Can Deskilo switch a Scene while the cover stays visible?
Yes. The cover can remain on screen while a Scene transition finishes underneath, and you decide when to reveal the result.
Free and Pro
The current release plan includes one free Scene and a Deskilo Pro lifetime upgrade for additional capabilities. Pro is planned as a one-time App Store purchase, not a subscription.
Purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Final localized pricing and availability will come from the Mac App Store.
Troubleshooting checklist
- Exit any active Scene before changing its configuration.
- Confirm the apps in the Scene still exist at the expected location on your Mac.
- Check Show and Open separately; they control different behavior.
- Try the Scene again with fewer apps to isolate the setting that behaves unexpectedly.
- If the issue persists, restart Deskilo and reproduce it once more.
If you need to report a problem, the most useful details are your macOS version, Deskilo version, the Scene settings involved, and the exact steps that reproduce the issue.
Privacy and diagnostics
Deskilo does not require a Deskilo account. Scene configuration is stored locally, and the current build does not include a developer-operated advertising or analytics SDK.
